Where does Shredders get its snow data?
Shredders aggregates data from official sources including SNOTEL (USDA snow monitoring stations), NOAA (National Weather Service forecasts), and Open-Meteo for weather data. We process this data to provide accurate powder scores and conditions.
How is the Powder Score calculated?
The Powder Score (1-10) is calculated using multiple factors: recent snowfall (24-48 hours), current snow depth, temperature, wind conditions, and forecasted precipitation. Higher scores indicate better powder conditions.
Why does the app need my location?
Location access is optional and used only to calculate distances to mountains and provide relevant trip planning information. Your location is never stored or shared. You can use the app without location access.
Which mountains are supported?
Shredders currently supports Pacific Northwest mountains including: Mt. Baker, Stevens Pass, Crystal Mountain, Snoqualmie, White Pass, Mission Ridge, 49 Degrees North, Schweitzer, Lookout Pass, Mt. Hood Meadows, Timberline, and Mt. Bachelor.
How often is the data updated?
Snow conditions are updated every 30 minutes from SNOTEL stations. Weather forecasts are refreshed every hour from NOAA. The app automatically fetches the latest data when you open it.
Is the iOS app free?
Yes, Shredders is free to download and use. There are no in-app purchases or subscription fees.
Can I use the AI chat to plan my trip?
Yes! The AI chat assistant can help you compare mountains, understand current conditions, plan your trip, and answer questions about snow conditions and weather forecasts.
The app shows incorrect data for my mountain. What should I do?
If you notice incorrect data, please contact us with details about the mountain and what data appears incorrect. Data accuracy depends on the SNOTEL station coverage and NOAA forecast zones for each location.
